In the midsummer of July, Kobe Bryant, the famous United States basketball star, set up Kobe Bryant China Fund in order to promote the Sino-US cultural and sports exchanges and pay close attention to the development of philanthropy in China,. This Fund was established by the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Kobe Bryant Family Foundation, which carries out public welfare projects in terms of children education, sports, health-care plan, and so on.
On July 27, fund-raising charity dinner of China Soong Ching Ling Foundation and Kobe Bryant China Fund was held at the China World Hotel. Mr. Zeng Wei, director of the Soong Ching Ling Foundation and chairman of our company, was invited to attend the establishment ceremony for this Fund, and he donated RMB 3 million yuan as the first donation in support of Kobe China Fund.
Charity is a cause which connects the love of good-hearted people. Out of common aspirations for philanthropy, Mr. Kobe had a pleasant talk with Mr. Zeng Wei after learning that Palm Springs Holdings Limited always carries out charity activities. Kobe stated that China Soong Ching Ling Foundation Bryant China Fund aims at improving education for poor children in China and the United States, realizing the two countries’ exchange in terms of education, sports, culture, arts and other areas. It also aims at enhancing understanding and mutual respect, accommodation and acceptance between China and the USA, funding the establishment of basketball schools in Chinese cities or villages with a certain conditions so as to drive the development of basketball cause in China. Therefore mutual understanding between Chinese and American children can be promoted and Sino-US cultural exchange and integration can be enhanced.
At the charity dinner, the Kobe Bryant China Fund announced the first donation of five million yuan shall be donated to children in disaster area hit by earthquake in Sichuan in May 2008 to help them carry out cultural and sports activities. When the dinner was over, Kobe, who had forged deep friendship with Mr. Zeng Wei, went to the Palm Springs International Apartment Club for a private visit. It is believed that in the future, children education in poverty-stricken areas will be improved to the greatest extent as more and more people attach importance to it.
